EPI SURVEY
Epidemiologic study to assess the IGRA positivity in populations with a high TB burden
STUDY SITES:
Binh Thuy and Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho province.
TIMELINE: 2020-2025
PROJECT IMPLEMENTER: TB and Lung Diseases Can Tho Hospital and the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research
FUNDED BY: Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute (Gates MRI)
CORE STAKEHOLDERS: TB and Lung Diseases Can Tho Hospital.
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Professor Guy Marks, The University of New South Wales and the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research
VIETNAMESE PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Associate Professor Nguyen Viet Nhung, National Lung Hospital
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: This study will be conducted to assess the proportion of IGRA positivity in populations with a high TB disease burden.
OUTCOMES:
Compare the IGRA status between the 1st screening and 12 months afterward for the collected samples in order to identify the proportion of suspected pulmonary TB and laboratory-confirmed pulmonary TB during the study follow-up period. These results will support building the capacity to conduct a TB vaccine efficacy study in populations with a high TB disease burden.
